When is it time to say goodbye?

The decision to say goodbye is the most difficult one to make and our veterinarians can help you decide when it’s time. The answer often depends on evaluating your furry pal’s quality of life. If your pet’s health is acute or in rapid deterioration, our veterinarians would typically suggest euthanasia. Some symptoms to look for while making the decision are:

• Your pet has stopped eating or lost weight drastically
• Continuous vomiting and/or diarrhea that cannot be stopped
• Drastic drop in your pet’s activity level
• Not being able to stand up or move on their own
• Chronic pain that cannot be alleviated with medicine

What is the procedure for euthanasia?

Pets are often given anesthesia or a sedative before the euthanasia medicine. It helps them relax and not feel any pain. The euthanasia medication then given and usually takes between 2 to 5 minutes to take effect.

Is the procedure painful for pets?

No. Sedatives and anaesthesia medication ensures your pet doesn’t feel any pain in their last moments.
